Summer is here, which means musicians everywhere are deep diving into repertoire ideas for the upcoming year. While you sit poolside sipping on something delicious, get a jump start on your 26-27 concert season with two premier educators in our region.
Melanie Mijares is the director of choirs at Concord High School and President of Delaware ACDA. In her 10 years as a choral educator, she has devoted time and research to the topic of democratic processes in the music classroom (and choral rehearsal) as a form of culturally responsive teaching. In April of 2023 she presented on this subject at the World Symposium for Choral Music in Istanbul. As president chair of DEACDA, she works to provide access to resources and support for directors in their Anti-Racism, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ADEI) initiatives. In addition to her involvement with DE ACDA, she is also a member of Elevate Vocal Arts' flagship ensemble Elevation.
Danielle Gover is a middle school choir teacher in Montgomery County, Maryland who loves helping students find their voices through music. She is incredibly passionate about choir and about teaching young minds in a way that builds confidence, teamwork, and joy. In 2024, she won the Montgomery County Rising Star Teacher Award for her impact in the classroom. Danielle brings energy, care, and creativity to every rehearsal and performance.
Both Mijares and Gover are members of Elevate Vocal Arts' flagship ensemble Elevation.
