We often teach about Black musical traditions as historical artifacts, confined to February or special occasions. But what if honoring African American vocal artistry isn't about adding, but rather centering? Together, we'll explore age-appropriate repertoire and storytelling techniques that don't treat Black music as supplemental, but as foundational to how young singers develop both vocal skill and cultural consciousness. Instead of performative inclusion, we'll focus on authentic pedagogy that honors the living, breathing traditions that have always shaped American music.
