50 Years Later: Fall of Saigon
Vietnamese Diaspora Choral Perspectives
Monday, April 21st | 7:00 PM

April 30th, 2025, marks the 50th anniversary of the Fall of Sài Gòn. In its aftermath, the cultural ethos of the Vietnamese diaspora influenced a generation of composers. Their body of work explores themes of assimilation, acculturation, appreciation, and reclamation, commonly felt by “cross-culture kids.” Despite the insight provided into the lived experience of the diasporic community, these works have been largely absent from Western stages.

This webinar serves to highlight Vietnamese history, the refugee experience, and the experiences of 1st and 2nd generation artists through the lens of diasporic choral music. With cultural and historical context in place, we will explore this body of repertoire, including approachable works in both English and Vietnamese suitable for Western ensembles.
